HSBC announces the purchase of shares after the profit in the second quarter fell below expectations

HSBC’s largest European Lender has failed to receive expectations in the second quarter, mainly due to the cost of impairment, according to the Bank.

The bank also announced the purchase of shares in the amount of $ 3 billion.

He reported a profit before taxing for the quarter ended in June of $ 6.3 billion, which is 29% less than a year ago.

Here are the results of HSBC for the second quarter of 2025. Compared to the consensus assessments compiled by the Bank.

Profit before tax: $ 6.3 billion compared to 6.99 billion dollars

Revenue: $ 16.5 billion compared to $ 16.67 billion

Operating costs increased by 10% compared to the same period a year ago, and mainly the result of restructuring and other related costs, as well as increased consumption and investment in technology, communicated the bank.

HSBC shares listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange fell by 2.71%.

The CEO of the HSBC Group Georges Elhedery pointed out the “structural challenges” to the global economy that caused uncertainty and market volatility, citing “widely grounded tariffs” and “fiscal vulnerability”.

“It complicates the outlooks of inflation and interest rates by creating greater uncertainty. Even before the tariffs will take effect, trade disorders change the economic landscape,” Ellhedery said.

The Bank stated that “well positioned” for the management of uncertainty, including tariffs, although its refund on tangible capital – a measure of profit creation – could be affected.

“Although we would expect a direct impact of tariffs to have a relatively modest impact on our revenues, a broader macroeconomic deterioration could lead to the Rote, excluding significant items, out of our target range from the middle of the second years,” says the Bank’s statement.

The HSBC warned that lending demand would remain muted by the end of the year, while it envisages further growth in its wealth department.

“We still expect two-digit percentage average annual growth of fees and other revenues in the wealth department in the medium term”, the bank said.
