Police officers from the Ston Police Station have completed a criminal investigation involving two citizens of the Republic of Croatia, aged 35 and 47, who reside in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Namely, on June 25 of last year, the injured 72-year-old woman was called on her home phone, from a hidden number, by one of the suspects who falsely introduced himself as a police officer and told her that she was being robbed by bank employees. He instructed her to withdraw all the money she has in her account, after which she had to hand it over to plainclothes police officers who will come to her address in Orebić to collect the money, and the money will be returned to her after the investigation is completed and after they put different serial numbers on the banknotes.
The injured party, not doubting the veracity of the allegations, withdrew the total amount of EUR 171,000.00 on two occasions, which money, according to the telephone instructions, she handed over to an unknown male person who came to her home address, i.e. to another male suspect.
After the money was not returned to her, she suspected a fraud and reported the whole case to the police, reported the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Department.
Police officers arrested the younger suspect very quickly, that is, already on July 2, while the second, based on a search warrant issued by the Ston Police Station, was arrested on Saturday, January 10, at Metković MCGP.
The first suspect was handed over to the detention unit of the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Department on July 5 last year, while the second suspect was handed over on January 11, according to the press release.
