The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established on 20. June 1997. year on the Central Bank, which adopted the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, and started working on this day in 1997. years.

The main goals and tasks of the Central Bank are determined by law in accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH. The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains monetary stability in accordance with the currency board arrangement (1km: 0.51129 Euro), which is issued by the domestic currency with a lot of coverage in free convertible foreign currency funds at a fixed exchange rate 1 km: 0.51129 euro.

The Central Bank defines and controls the implementation of the Monetary Policy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, manages official foreign exchange reserves by issuing the domestic currency, helps and maintains appropriate payment and accounting systems. He also coordinates the activities of the Boning Banking Agency. Entities, which are responsible for issuing licenses for work and supervision of banks.

The highest body of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Governing Board, which is responsible for determining the monetary policy and control of its implementation, the organization and strategy of the Central Bank in accordance with the authorities determined by the Law. In the first six years, the Governor was the Governor, who was also the chairman, and three members, two of whom (Bosniak and Croat) from the Federation of BiH and one (Serb) from the Republika Srpska.

After that, the Governing Board, according to the Law on the CBBH, consists of five people appointed by the presidency for a period of six years. The Governor Council appends one of its members. The management of the Central Bank consists of the Governor and three vice guverners, which appointed the governor with the approval of the Management Board. The task of the Management Board is operational management of the central bank. Each vice guverner is directly responsible for the work of one department – the central bank sector.

The Central Bank has a central office, three main units and two branches. The Central Office of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in Sarajevo. The main units are the main unit of Sarajevo, the main bank of the Republika Srpska Banja Luka and the main unit Mostar. The branches are: CBBH Brčko Branch and CBBH branch in Palam.

Last year, foreign currency reserves of the Central Bank of BiH amounted to KM 17.6 billion, which is an increase of KM 1.36 billion compared to 2023. year – a confirmation of the stability and credibility of the monetary system.

The monetary gold reserves reached 3.5 tons, which is the highest level of the bank, and the coefficient of the Currency Committee increased to 108.38% in the currency committee as the foundation of the MONETARY POLICY OF BiH and the stability of the domestic currency and financial system.
