The driver of the tram AK (1978) was deprived of his liberty on suspicion of being responsible for a serious traffic accident that occurred yesterday in Sarajevo, in which one person died and several others were injured. As announced, he is charged with serious criminal offenses against the safety of public traffic in connection with endangering public traffic. It is currently located in the official premises of the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo, where it is under criminal investigation.
23-year-old Erdoan Morankić from Brčko, a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, lost his life in the accident. The news of his death shook colleagues and professors, who are saying goodbye to him with emotional messages on social networks.
A seventeen-year-old girl was seriously injured and is in an extremely serious state of health. Doctors are still fighting for her life, and the public is following information about her recovery with special attention.
According to the information so far, the accident happened yesterday around 12 o’clock, when the tram, moving from the direction of the Railway Station, entered the intersection near the Technical School at high speed. At that moment, the vehicle derailed, after which several people were hit at the tram station. In total, four people were injured, while one died.
The police and competent authorities are conducting an extensive investigation to determine all the circumstances that led to the tragedy, including the technical correctness of the vehicle, the speed of movement and any other factors that could have influenced the loss of control over the tram. The public expects a detailed report after the completion of the investigation and expert examination.
