According to the indictments of the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of Tuzla Canton, the competent courts in 2025 passed first-instance or final judgments in which the perpetrators of various criminal offenses were sentenced to a total of 440 years in prison.
During this year, prosecutors proposed the determination of detention in 188 cases, while 108 were proposed in 2024, which indicates an increased intensity of proceedings in more complex cases at work.
Considering the long-term staff shortage and the constant lack of eight prosecutors throughout the year, along with the increased volume of work and pronounced territorial dispersion, the results achieved during this year confirm that the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Turkey maintains a high level of efficiency, promptness and continuity in its work.
Prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Turkey have filed 1,140 indictments to date, and it should be taken into account that in almost 1,700 cases proceedings against the same persons have been merged, with the aim of economy, rationalization and efficiency of proceedings before the competent courts. There are twice as many merged cases than in the same period last year, which contributes to the speeding up of proceedings, the unification of criminal offenses and perpetrators, and a significant reduction in the costs of court proceedings.
During 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Turkey accepted and opened more than 9,500 new cases, and about 10,600 cases were resolved, which is almost 700 resolved cases more than in 2024.
In this period, the plan for dealing with old cases (older than six months) was implemented to the extent of 93 percent.
During 2025, the prosecutors issued 2,868 orders not to conduct the investigation, and 448 orders to stop the investigation, because the grounds for suspecting that the reported persons had committed criminal acts were not established.
The Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Tuzla Canton has a large territorial jurisdiction and dispersion, because it acts before nine courts in the area of the Tuzla Canton. Only two courts are located in Tuzla (Cantonal and Municipal Court Tuzla), while seven municipal courts are spread across cities and municipalities on the territory of Tuzla Canton (Živinice, Gradačac, Srebrenik, Gračanica, Lukavac, Banovići and Kalesija).
This fact further complicates the work of prosecutors, given the large number of hearings during the year, which implies the constant obligations of prosecutors to travel and represent cases before a large number of courts, which affects the operational efficiency of investigations, investigative hearings and indictments. In this regard, the official cars of the Prosecutor’s Office of TK, due to numerous trips to trials and hearings before a large number of courts in the area of TK, have traveled more than 140,000 kilometers this year alone.
Considering the aggravating circumstances related to staff shortages and complex territorial dispersion, the TK Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office achieved very good results in its work this year as well.
