The woman, whose body was found in a suitcase in a forest near Majšprek, is a missing Austrian citizen who has been searched for since last weekend, and the main suspect is her ex-partner, a citizen of Slovenia.
The Maribor Police Department announced that today the police found the body of a woman in the forest near Majšperk and that it is a 31-year-old Austrian citizen who went missing last Sunday, November 23.
The Austrian police also announced that their Slovenian colleagues found the body of 31-year-old Stefani P. today, and that the perpetrator is a 31-year-old man who confessed to the murder.
The main suspect is her former partner, a citizen of Slovenia with permanent residence in Austria, who was handed over to the Austrian judicial authorities, according to RTV Slovenia.
According to the Austrian newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”, the suspect allegedly told the Austrian police after several hours of questioning that led them to the body in the forest.
The paper states that the suspect allegedly strangled his ex-partner, put her body in a suitcase and buried it in a forest near Majšperk.
The Maribor police announced that more details will be known tomorrow when a press conference will be held in Graz in which Austrian and Slovenian police officers will participate, as well as a representative of the State Prosecutor’s Office in Graz.
The murdered 31-year-old Austrian woman, according to Austrian media an influencer, was last seen last Sunday morning after returning home from a party.
She texted her friend that she had arrived home safely, then disappeared. She was supposed to have a photo shoot in downtown Graz on Sunday afternoon, but she didn’t show up.
When they were unable to contact them, Austrian police were informed by family members and colleagues.
Already at the beginning of the investigation, the police discovered indications that her ex-boyfriend could be connected to the disappearance.
According to unofficial media reports, the man has been crossing the Austrian-Slovenian border several times in his personal vehicle in recent days, which has raised additional suspicions.
The investigation took a turn when the Slovenian police received a report that a car, which turned out to be the property of the suspect, caught fire in the parking lot next to the casino in Šentilje, right behind the border crossing.
Upon arrival, they also found a 31-year-old man who was staying nearby. Since he could not convincingly explain the circumstances of the fire and his movements, he was arrested on the spot, and the police informed his Austrian colleagues about the arrest.
The district court in Maribor allowed the handover of the 31-year-old suspect from Slovenia to the judicial authorities in Austria, where in the meantime his brother and stepfather are detained.
The search for the missing woman continued in Austria and Slovenia. Austrian investigators questioned the suspect for several hours yesterday, who was silent at first, but after several hours of questioning he broke down and confessed to the murder, Austrian media reported.
