New documents linked to the late Jeffrey Epstein have sparked strong reactions, shock and outrage across the Muslim world, after claims emerged that parts of the holy Kiswah cloth, which covers the Kaaba in Mecca, came into his possession. Information emerging from Epstein’s recently released writings suggests that this highly sacred Islamic symbol was, under as-yet-unexplained circumstances, transported from Saudi Arabia to the United States, where it ended up with a man who was later convicted of serious sex crimes.
Claims of desecration of one of Islam’s most sacred symbols
These allegations are given special weight by the claim that Epstein, after receiving parts of the Kiswah, allegedly laid the holy cloth on the floor, which Muslims around the world perceive as a deeply offensive act and a grave desecration of one of the holiest symbols of Islam. In the Islamic tradition, the Kiswah is considered not only a symbol of the sacredness of the Kaaba, but also an object that is made, kept and used with strict observance of religious regulations and rituals.
For many believers, the very thought that this sacred object was in the possession of a person whose name has become synonymous with abuse, crime and moral depravity represents an additional level of insult and humiliation.
The role of Gulf contacts under scrutiny
According to the portal report Middle East Eyethe documents indicate that Epstein’s contacts connected to the United Arab Emirates allegedly played a key role in arranging the transport of parts of the Kiswah from Mecca to the United States of America. Although the details have not yet been fully confirmed, the report suggests that the holy cloth from Saudi Arabia arrived directly at one of Epstein’s properties.
If this information turns out to be true, it is a serious security and religious scandal that raises many questions about how it was possible to take parts of the Kiswah out of Mecca in the first place, who authorized such an act and which institutions or individuals failed to protect one of the most important sacred objects in Islam.
Outrage and condemnation across the Muslim world
The publication of these allegations caused a wave of outrage among Muslims around the world. On social networks, but also through the statements of religious authorities and organizations, this act is described as an unforgivable desecration of the sanctuary and a serious attack on the religious values of Islam.
The Kiswah, which is traditionally made in Saudi Arabia and ceremonially placed on the Kaaba every year, enjoys great respect among Muslims. Her alleged abuse or mistreatment, especially in the context of Epstein’s criminal legacy, further deepens feelings of hurt and anger.
Calls for investigation and accountability
Numerous Islamic organizations, religious leaders and public figures have called for an urgent, transparent and international investigation to determine the full truth about this case. In particular, the responsibility of all those who, directly or indirectly, facilitated the bringing out and transfer of the holy cloth from Mecca is demanded.
For many Muslims, this case is not just a matter of a single incident, but a test of respect for Islam, its shrines and the religious sentiments of hundreds of millions of believers around the world. The outcome of the investigation and the reactions of the competent institutions are being carefully monitored, as they could have long-term consequences for trust in the management and protection of Islamic holy places.
