The anti-fascist struggle of the RBiH Army is best evidenced by the military parade on the occasion of Victory Day and the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Europe’s victory over fascism in Paris in 1995. Then Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, its Army, received an invitation to participate in the military parade, and the honor of carrying the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina went to the celebrated commander of the 41st Mostar’s famous and knightly brigade, Semir Drljević Lovac. By participating in the military parade in Paris that day, the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina received recognition for the fight it led, and unlike other military formations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, became part of the European anti-fascist family.
Whether it is the flag of the RBiH Army or the first flag of the independent Republic of BiH with lilies, the scenario is always the same. Let us remind you that although it was the official flag of the internationally recognized Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 until the imposition of a new year in 1998, the flag with lilies was taken away by the police in Banja Luka on November 25, the Day of Statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the women from Bugojno unfurled a flag with lilies and took pictures with it, the citizens reported them, after which the police came because of the alleged violation of public order and peace.
On the other hand, Chetniks paraded in the streets of Bosanski Grahovo for Orthodox Christmas. Videos are available on social media showing a convoy of vehicles with prominent black flags bearing “death heads”, cockades and other Chetnik symbols in the center of Bosanski Grahov, a small municipality with a majority Serb population.
It is the same with the unconstitutional flag of the so-called herceg-bosne. By the decision of the FBiH Constitutional Court of November 20, 1997 and February 19, 1998, the use of the flag as a symbol of the canton was declared unconstitutional.
From this we come to the conclusion that only displaying a legitimate flag with lilies is punished.
Although things like this are persistently repeated, the politicians, apart from reaction, do not take concrete actions. To begin with, it could hire legal teams that will represent those whose flags are confiscated, but also all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who wish to display the flag of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina anywhere on the soil of their country, but also who will seek to determine the criminal and disciplinary responsibility of police officers who evidently exceeded their authority by seizing the flag.
At the same time, they could initiate changes to the law, which would clearly determine when, where and in what cases the flags of other countries can be displayed on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, even if they were the flags of those countries that committed aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
