The administration of US President Donald Trump has nominated retired Brigadier General Ronald Johnson as the new ambassador of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The nomination of Johnson was sent to the US Senate together with the proposals of candidates for ambassadors in other countries, and the information was published on the official website of the White House.
Johnson has a decades-long military and international career behind him. He was born in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and graduated from Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire with a degree in management. He received his military education at several prestigious American military institutions, including the Amphibious Warfare School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, and the Naval War College in Rhode Island.
He started his career in the marines in 1980 as a platoon and company commander in the 1st battalion of the 2nd marines. During his service, he held a number of command and international assignments, including a deployment to Cuba where he was the commander of the ground defense unit at the Guantanamo Bay base.
He gained special experience through international missions, so he was a United Nations military observer in Lebanon and Sinai. He also participated in operations “Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm” during the Gulf War.
During his career, he also worked as an adviser to the Central Asian Peacekeeping Battalion for Central Asian security issues, and later commanded the 3rd Battalion of the 6th Marines and the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Johnson also participated in operations in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as in the evacuation of American citizens from Beirut in Lebanon.
He retired from the army in 2010, after which he founded the consulting company Mares Associates LLC, which cooperates with partner countries in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and South America. He was also involved in the work of the company Brite-Strike Technologies, which specializes in tactical equipment and lighting.
