Aleksa Šantić was born in 1868. in Mostar, the city in the heart of Herzegovina, where he spent most of his life. Father Risto died early to him, so the care over him took over the uncle. He had four brothers, Peru, Jeft, Sava and Jakov, as well as sisters of juice, persons (who married poet and Aleksa’s friend Svetozar Ćorović) and Zoric who died like a baby.
He lived in a trading family in which they did not have understanding for his talent, so after the end of the trading school in Trieste and Ljubljana returned to Rodno Mostar.
He created two centuries to the difference and more than the other poets of his generation connected the conceptual and poetic suffering of the XIX and the XX century. In his poetic studying, the most shares had a poet Vojislav Ilić and Jovan Jovanović-Zmaj and from foreign most important influence had Heinrich Hayini when he translated.
Santic reaches his greatest poetic maturity between 1905. and 1910. years when his most beautiful songs were created.
Santic’s poetry is full of strong emotions, love sadness and bolts and defies.
