The Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, reacted after the police detained a person suspected of setting fire to an official car of the City of Mostar, which was parked in front of his family home. In his statement, Kordić emphasized that he was satisfied with the quick outcome of the investigation and the professional work of the police officers.
“I thank the Mostar Police Department for the quick and efficient reaction in discovering the suspect for the arson of the vehicle I used. The engagement and professionalism of the police confirm that the safety of citizens is a constant priority. I hope that this prompt reaction will also be a clear message to everyone who thinks of any illegal activity,” said Kordić.
Explanation about the photo with the suspect
After information appeared in the public that there is an old photograph in which the mayor and the suspect are together, Kordić gave an explanation about the origin of that picture. “The person who is now the subject of the investigation was part of the delegation that I received in 2022. That was the only meeting and after that I had absolutely no contact with him. Therefore, I reject any insinuations that could link me to this event,” the mayor emphasized.
He added that he does not want to prejudge the further course of the proceedings, because the suspect is giving a statement today before the Prosecutor’s Office in the presence of a lawyer.
Expectations from the investigation and messages to the media
Kordić expressed his belief that the Prosecutor’s Office and competent institutions will shed light on all the circumstances of the arson to the end. “The public will be informed in a timely manner about all relevant details as the investigation progresses,” he said, thanking the police and judicial authorities once again.
In the end, he appealed to the media to report responsibly. “I ask all the media to adhere to professional standards and verified information when informing the public, in order to prevent the spread of inaccuracies and possible deception of citizens,” concluded Kordić.
