Many of them were left without basic resources for learning, teaching and everyday life, the Association of High School Students announced.
ASuBiH engaged 55 local teams throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and organized various activities with the aim of providing assistance. It also published a public call from October 5 to 15, inviting individuals, organizations and the business sector to donate funds to help high school students from the affected areas.
The response was extraordinary, because around 22,000 KM was collected. With these funds, assistance was provided to 30 high school students from the most severely affected areas.
“We decided to help the injured high school students in the form of paying monthly tickets for transportation. We contacted high schools from flood-affected local communities, we received lists of students who need help. ASuBiH provided a subsidy for monthly student tickets, enabling students to attend school unhindered until the end of the school year 2024/2025,” the announcement states.
The Management Board of the Association symbolically handed out monthly tickets to high school students, visiting them in Jablanica and Konjic on January 3.
“As the Association of High School Students, we did the impossible, we reacted quickly, Bosnia and Herzegovina and our local branches have never been more united, with this we showed how strong we really are as an organization and how ready we are to help. During this action, we remained united, strong, hardworking and unstoppable”, points out the member of the Management Board of the Association, Antonija Sučić.
Member of the Management Board of the Association, Haris Užičanin, believes that this is not a humanitarian action of the Association alone, but of all high school students in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We could not remain silent on the suffering and pain experienced by all the people who were swept away by the floods, everything they had created. We wanted to help our high school friends, which we ultimately succeeded in doing. High school students stand with high school students,” says Užičanin.
The Association of High School Students in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ASuBiH) is a non-governmental, non-partisan and non-political organization whose main goal is to improve the status of high school students in the country and gather all young people attending high school in BiH. Local teams are branches of ASuBiH whose work is focused on activities that affect the improvement of the status of high school students in the local community. Local teams of ASuBiH operate in 72 cities across BiH, it was announced.
