A few days ago, the citizens of Sarajevo were suffocating in thick smog that reduced visibility to a few meters, while many felt health problems, most often sore throats. The value of PM particles reached more than 500. However, thanks to favorable weather, including snow and wind, the air briefly cleared. Unfortunately, the situation is now worsening again.
In addition to Sarajevo, which is at the top of the list, Hanoi (Vietnam), Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Karachi (Pakistan) are among the most polluted cities in the world. On the same list, among the ten most polluted cities, is Skopje from North Macedonia.
The “Warning” episode was declared two days ago by the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the KS, due to the value of pollutants exceeding 90 µg/m³.
Meteorologists have announced that air pollution in Sarajevo will become even more pronounced due to the unfavorable weather forecast. The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute also warned of polluted air during the New Year holidays.
People with chronic lung and heart diseases, pregnant women, senior citizens, children and those prone to allergic reactions should avoid being outdoors due to unfavorable air quality.
