In accordance with the provisions of the Rulebook on food additives (“Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, no. 33/18 and 6/21), the use of erythrosine in food supplements is not allowed.
The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted all available information to the relevant inspection bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) conducted a reevaluation of the use of erythrosine as a food additive and in February 2011 published a “Scientific opinion on the reevaluation of erythrosine (E 127) as a food additive” in which it is stated that, according to the available data, there is no basis for revising the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) of erythrosine of 0.1 mg/kg body weight.
According to EFSA’s scientific opinion, the estimated intake level of erythrosine in the adult population is below the acceptable daily intake and therefore, with current levels of consumer exposure, including other sources of exposure (eg toothpastes, medicines), there is no safety concern.
