Bosniak returnees in the territory of the smaller Bosnian entity RS experience various forms of provocation and insults, most often during religious holidays or commemoration of the anniversaries of the martyrdom.
After this unfortunate event, Samir Baćevac, vice-president of the Bijeljina City Assembly, spoke out, indicating that this was a violation of the “hard-earned peace and tolerance”.
– While honest people rejoice and prepare for their holidays, decorate their homes and tables in family clothes, in our Janja again provocations and disruption of painstakingly acquired peace and tolerance. Just like a few months ago, a group of young men with phantom girls painted graffiti with inappropriate content and messages at several locations in Janja, and started their act of intimidation and bringing unrest – he said.
He stated that, according to the information received so far, “the police were not even in sight in the period from 19:00 to 23:00 when all this happened”.
– It is obviously a similar group of hooligans, fans of Red Star who were already on a similar task – Baćevac added.
He said that he expects the competent authorities to do their work responsibly, to sanction the perpetrators of this and similar acts, in order to restore the sense of security of the population, and to prevent the same from being repeated.
– Especially taking into account that similar things have already happened on the days of Orthodox holidays in previous years, such events only cast a shadow on the good and positive experiences that were had in the previous period.
