The Erasmus+ program of the European Union, which is of key importance for the development of education, training, youth and sports in the period 2021–2027. year, provides citizens and institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills, strengthen international cooperation and improve the educational system and social capacities, and enables the use of significant financial resources intended for the Western Balkans region.
As stated in the Information on the participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Erasmus+ program in the part related to education and youth of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, which should be considered by the Council of Ministers at the next session, in 2023 alone, more than 1,600 mobilities have been made possible students and academic staff, with outbound mobilities from our country being more numerous, with a total of 1,106 students and 725 academic staff members who expanded their knowledge and experience in abroad. At the same time, Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted 586 foreign students and 598 academic staff members.
In addition to mobility, the Erasmus+ program also implements a series of capacity-building projects in higher education, the aim of which is to modernize study programs, improve the quality of education and strengthen digital competences. Institutions from BiH participate in the implementation of 10 projects selected in 2023, the total value of which is 6,542,447 euros. These projects cover key topics such as quality assurance in higher education, digital transformation, green transition and gender equality.
The eTwinning and EPALE programs additionally contribute to the development of the education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The eTwinning network, which supports international school cooperation, awarded 98 national quality labels and 52 European quality labels in 2023/2024. year. The EPALE platform for adult education has implemented numerous activities to strengthen the capacity of experts, including more than 10 regional and international events, thus contributing to the development of the adult education sector.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has been participating in the Erasmus+ program since the signing of the Framework Agreement on participation in Community programs, which has been in force since 2007. This program provides opportunities for lifelong learning, professional development and international mobility, and contributes to the modernization of educational systems and social development.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the main coordinator of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in the Erasmus+ program, will continue to work on ensuring continuity and maximum utilization of all available opportunities. The goal of the Ministry is to ensure a long-term contribution to the development of the educational system and social progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina through cooperation with educational institutions, young people and partners from the EU, announced the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
