Asia-Pacific markets opened lower on Friday.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.6%, while the Topix fell 0.3%.
Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 was 0.2% lower. South Korean markets were closed for a holiday.
In the US, Netflix shares fell more than 8% after second-quarter results met analysts’ expectations.
Thursday’s moves come after a decline in chipmakers dragged the broader market lower. The S&P 500 fell 0.5% on the day, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.5%. The Dow closed 105.67 points lower, or 0.2%, reports SEEbiz.
The VanEck Semiconductor ETF ( SMH ) fell nearly 4%, while Taiwan Semiconductor lost more than 2% after mixed second-quarter reports. While the firm’s net profit rose year-on-year, Taiwan Semi also raised its spending outlook for the full year. Marvell Technology, STMicroelectronics and Micron followed Taiwan Semiconductor’s decline.
Thursday’s drop sent the SMH down 6.9% this week, on track for its third weekly drop in four weeks. Major stock benchmarks are also down since the start of the week, with the S&P 500 down 0.6%, while the Dow and Nasdaq are down 0.2% and 1.5%, respectively.
