– Namely, the payment of a driver’s license renewal fee in the amount of 60 KM is required from all drivers, regardless of the validity period of the driver’s license. According to the law, a driver’s license is issued for a period of 10 years. However, according to the same law, the validity period of the document is reduced to three years for older drivers, while drivers with reduced health capacity must renew their driver’s license in some situations every two years, and pay a fee each time. This practically means that the price of the driver’s license renewal fee for healthy young and middle-aged drivers is 60 KM for a period of 10 years, while for the same period of validity of the license, pensioners pay 200 KM, and drivers with reduced health abilities up to 300 KM – he stated. Magazinović’s proposal is based on the payment of a fee for the renewal of a driver’s license in such a way that its amount is calculated according to the length of the document’s validity. Without changing today’s tax price, the annual price would be six KM, which would mean that pensioners would pay 18 KM for the renewal of their driver’s license compared to the current 60 KM, while drivers with reduced health who renew their driver’s license every two years would pay 12 KM instead the previous 60 KM. Ultimately, all drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina would pay the same price in a period of 10 years, which is not the case today.
According to official data, 826,707 people aged 65 and over live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which 170,687 people have a valid driver’s license. All of them, along with tens of thousands of those who, for health and other reasons, get their driver’s license for a period of less than 10 years are discriminated against in such a way that they pay many times more to renew their driver’s license, adds Magazinović.
On this occasion, Magazinović emphasized that European standards in the field of preventing discrimination dictate that the elderly and citizens with health problems should have the right to adjustments that take into account their specific needs, but also limited financial possibilities. In the case of the Driver’s License Ordinance, this was not taken into account, and not only were pensioners and persons with reduced health abilities not in a privileged position, but they were practically punished by having to pay several times the amount of the driver’s license fee for the same period of time.
– If we aspire to a society of equals, as everyone claims, then there will be no problem in enabling over 200,000 drivers to pay the same price for renewing their driver’s license as for everyone else, especially bearing in mind that the majority of the total number of discriminated against are pensioners whose incomes are significantly lower than those who pay a lower price in this situation – concluded Magazinović, it was reported from the PSBiH Public Relations Department.
