The parents of one class of the “Stoja” Elementary School in Pula said that they will not let their children go to class after the winter holidays until they receive a concrete and sustainable solution that will ensure the safety and well-being of the students, and the reason for this is the transfer of students with, as they say, problematic behavior from another schools.
The media reports that the student allegedly received three reprimands and provoked the intervention of the police. The parents emphasize that they have nothing against the child, but demand the protection of their children, especially because of the information that the transferred student was violent towards his peers in the previous school.
“We do not want to expel children from school, but if the competent services do not take the necessary measures, we will be forced to seek justice through lawyers and the media,” the parents said in the letter.
The parents emphasize that they want the problem to be solved within the school with appropriate support for the student. The parents’ meeting with the director did not bring any changes – the decision to transfer remains in force, and the parents persist in boycotting classes.
The parents sent a letter to the head of the education department of the Istrian County Patricia Percan and the mayor Filip Zoričić, asking for a psychiatric examination of the student and professional help in order to reduce the risks. Percanova points out that the transfer was carried out in accordance with the law, and that the school has the professional capacity to deal with such cases.
The head of the department for social activities in the city administration, Ivana Sokolov, said that the situation is being monitored, and that, in cooperation with the school and competent services, measures will be taken to protect all students.
The parents believe that the decision was made without a risk assessment, and they are asking for urgent coordination with all relevant services to ensure the safety of the children.
