Every day, 120 tons of fruit, mostly apples, is being exported from Republika Srpska to Russia, and the demand is constantly growing, President of the Association of Fruit Growers in RS Dragoja Dojcinovic told Srna news agency.
He pointed out that the apple production last year was excellent, which is why there is enough fruit for export until May.
“We are satisfied with the sale of goods and price, and we have shown that we are very good partners, with high quality goods. We thus believe that we will be able to count on the Russian market in the future,” said Dojcinovic.
He added that mainly apples and pears are exported to Russia, but the yield of pears last year was very bad.
When it comes to Europe, Dojcinovic stressed that export of apples to Norway and Sweden began this year, but in a smaller amount, because those markets require entirely new varieties of apples, which Republika Srpska lacks.
