On Friday, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo found Sava Marinković and Aleksandar Macan guilty of murdering Sarajevo policemen Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović in 2018. Marinković was sentenced to 45 and Macan to 15 years in prison.
Time spent in custody will be credited to both of their sentences.
The court found the two defendants guilty of the crimes of aggravated theft and murder. Marinković was sentenced to a single sentence of 45 years, and Macan to 15 years in prison.
Both the Prosecution and the defense have the right to appeal this verdict.
Saim Smajlović from the Management Board of the Sarajevo Canton Police Union said that this court verdict sent a clear message that justice and the rule of law had won.
The evidentiary proceedings in this case ended on November 4.
The third defendant for the murder of the Sarajevo policemen, Marko Trifković, was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty.
A large number of members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton attended today the sentencing of Sava Marinković and Aleksandar Macan in the Cantonal Court.
As a reminder, Marinković and Macan are accused of being caught trying to steal a car on October 26, 2018, around 4:20 a.m. in Geteova Street, Alipašino Polje neighborhood in Sarajevo.
They then opened fire on the officers, firing at least 20 rounds.
Adis Šehović died on the spot, while Davor Vujinović died a few hours later from his injuries.
