The higher public prosecutor’s office in Novi Sad today filed charges against former minister Goran Vesić and 12 people for collapsing the roof of the Railway Station building in Novi Sad on November 1, when 15 people lost their lives and two people were seriously injured.
Among the accused is the former acting director of “Serbian Railway Infrastructure” Jelena Tanasković.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced that the indictment was brought against Tanasković, Vesić and N.Š, the former general director of “Infrastruktur železnice Srbije”, due to reasonable suspicion that they had committed the criminal offense of Aggravated Offense Against General Security under Article 288 Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code in connection with the criminal offense Causing general danger from Article 278 paragraph 3 in connection with paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code.
In addition to them, the indictment was also brought against SN, the responsible designer of the building structure, MJ, the chief designer of the conceptual project, Lj.MM, the chief designer of the project for the building permit, MS, the rapporteur for constructions of the Republic Revision Commission, JSM, the person responsible for technical control, ZSM and DJ, persons responsible for construction works, MG and DT, persons responsible for expert supervision. They are charged due to reasonable suspicion that they have committed the criminal offense Serious offense against general safety from Article 288 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code in connection with the criminal offense Improper and improper execution of construction works from Article 281 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
The indictment was brought after the investigative phase of the criminal procedure was completed by issuing the Order on the completion of the investigation.
The prosecutor’s office states that the indictment was submitted to the High Court in Novi Sad, and that all the documentation collected during the pre-investigation and investigation procedure, as well as all other evidence supporting the existence of justified suspicion for the indictment, was submitted with it.
The indictment suggested that the detention of all defendants who are in custody be extended.
“Determining custody was proposed for all defendants who are not in custody, namely: JT, former acting general director of “Infrastruktur železnice Srbije” ad, GV, former minister in the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and AD, former acting assistant minister in the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure”.
It was also proposed that all the defendants be banned from performing their calling, activities and duties, as well as that all the defendants be obliged to pay the costs of the criminal proceedings as a whole.
“Given the tragic consequences of the events of November 1, the High Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad expects that the panel of the High Court in Novi Sad, for the sake of further urgent and efficient action in this criminal proceeding, in accordance with the law, will confirm the indictment in a short period of time, in what way will conditions be created for scheduling the main trial and determining the criminal responsibility of all the defendants”, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office announced.
