Bitcoin recently traded above the $80,000 mark again after a long time.
This week, the price of bitcoin fell below the $80,000 mark, but for now it is consolidating just below it. There is still a feeling that the cryptocurrency sector is at the mercy of stock markets and the general risk appetite of investors. In this sense, cryptocurrencies have also given way to AI stocks, simply because there is the most attention and, consequently, more capital and higher potential returns.
Financial markets are cyclical in nature, so a reversal of this trend is likely only a matter of time – but it is virtually impossible to predict exactly when. Above all, however, the fragile foundations of the economy still hang: interest rates remain high, and the price of oil is also at elevated levels, which further fuels inflation, reports Bankar me. SpaceX is also expected to launch shares soon, and an initial public offering (IPO) is expected to hit the market at a record price.
SpaceX’s official initial public offering filing revealed a $1.45 billion bitcoin position, underscoring Elon Musk’s quiet commitment to the digital currency. The firm, which added bitcoin to its balance sheet in 2021, held 18,712 bitcoins at the end of December, purchased for $661 million. That remains unchanged from the end of 2024, which places SpaceX among the ten largest corporate bitcoin holders.
The SEC is reportedly leaning toward allowing third-party platforms to tokenize shares without issuer approval, Bloomberg reported. This is a significant departure from the agency’s Jan. 28 guidance, which made a sharp distinction between issuer-approved tokenization and third-party products. The issue raised by the agency was related to synthetic exposure in the case of tokenized securities. If formalized, the change would pave the way for a completely different model of tokenized securities.
