The Association “Survivors of the Genocide on July 11, 1995” announced the placing of crosses in the Bosniak cemetery on Kragljivoda, and strongly condemned this act, which represents a deep violation of the dignity of the victims of the genocide and their families.
“This is not only disrespect for the victims, but also an additional deepening of the painful wounds that the community has been surviving for decades. We remind the public that the genocide against the Bosniaks of Srebrenica was committed in this area, which was also confirmed by an international court. We understand the placing of crosses in the cemetery of the victims of this genocide as a provocation, spreading hatred and an attempt to destabilize the peace in Srebrenica”, they state.
They called on the competent authorities to react urgently and remove the crosses from the cemetery and to sanction those responsible for this act. In particular, they demand that the actions of the priest who led this procedure be investigated, as well as the responsibility of the police officers who were present on the spot and did not prevent the desecration of the cemetery, reports N1.
They appeal to the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina to take appropriate measures and sanction all those responsible for disturbing the peace and dignity of the innocent, including police officers.
They also call on the authorities in Srebrenica to take urgent measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The continuation of such acts humiliates Bosniak victims and deepens ethnic divisions in society.
“We call on the international community to insist and support all kinds of decisive steps to protect the dignity of all genocide victims and their families. We call on all citizens to preserve peace and dignity”, they concluded in the announcement.
