Problems in Asian markets after Trump’s customs

Asian-Pacific markets recorded a decline on Thursday, after US President Donald Trump introduced large reciprocal customs for more than 180 countries and territories – several of which are in the region.

In the graphs published on social networks, the White House has shown effective customs rates that claim that other countries impose US goods, including “currency manipulation and trade barriers”.

The White House told JAVERSU from CNBC on Wednesday that the new reciprocal rate for China would be added to existing customs in a total of 20%, which means the real customs rate for Beijing according to this Trump Mandate 54%.

Meanwhile, goods from India, South Korea and Australia faces customs from 26%, 25% and 10%.

Chris Kushlis, Main Macro Strategist for Emerging Markets in T. Rowe Price, says that new customs “represent a significant increase in customs exports, and undoubtedly more than the market expected.”

At the US, approximately 15% exports from the region, which means that the increase in customs ranges between 20% and 35% would be a significant obstacle to more than more open trade economies, “he pointed out.

“Many Asian farms have a relatively high share of its export added value that ends in the US, so the broad application of customs will prevent the effects of trade in trade,” Kushlis added.

What is interesting is that China, “which has the largest trading deficit with the United States, has no largest reciprocal customs,” said Stephen Dover, the main market strategy and the head of the Franklin Templeton Institute in Franklin Templeton.

Instead, he emphasized that Southeast Asia – who benefited from the past customs against China – there are “some of the highest reciprocal customs,” SEEbiz reports.

Japanese markets led losses in Asia. The Nikkei 225 reference index dropped by 3.10%, reducing the losses of over 4% in early trade, while the wider topix index fell 3.48%.

Hong Kong Hang Seng Index fell 1.58 percent, while Chinese CSI 300 dropped 0.71 percent.

In South Korea, the index fell 0.94%, reducing losses of over 3%, while the small capital Kosdaq fell 0.21%.

Australian S & P / ASX 200 dropped 0.89% in the last hour of the store.

The Indian NIFTY 50 reference index opened a drop of 0.34%, while the wider BSE SENSEX fell by 0.46%.

Prompt gold has reached a record value and traded for $ 3,148.84 per ounce in 11.58 hours per Singapore time, while investors wrestled into that noble metal.
