The Zadar police have completed the investigation of a serious traffic accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon at the entrance to the town of Murvica near Zadar. Two people on a motorcycle died in that accident, and the police statement reveals that it is a 31-year-old driver and a 27-year-old female passenger, both Croatian citizens.
He started overtaking, he was not wearing a helmet
According to the official results of the investigation, the accident occurred at 15:28 on the state road DC-08 when a 31-year-old man, driving a motorcycle with Zadar registration in the north direction, began to overtake the column of vehicles in front of him. It was established that the driver was not wearing a protective helmet, while the 27-year-old female passenger had a helmet on.
The young man overtook the convoy and did not adjust his speed to the conditions, road condition, visibility and traffic density. At that moment, the 50-year-old driver of a private car with Zadar registration, who was moving in the same direction, started to turn left. In order to avoid a direct collision with the car, the motorcycle driver started braking suddenly, as a result of which the motorcycle fell on the pavement.
The motorcycle fell into pieces, the road was closed for hours
After the fall, the motorcycle violently hit the car, and the unfortunate driver and passenger were separated from the seat. A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman died at the scene from the force of the blows and their injuries. Testimonies from the field show how devastating the impact was, according to the motorcycle literally disintegrating into several parts.
Autopsies will be conducted on the bodies of the deceased in order to determine all the details, and the competent County Attorney’s Office in Zadar was also immediately informed of the accident. Due to the investigation, this section of the Jadranska magistrala in Murvica was completely closed to all traffic from 3:45 p.m. to 7:23 p.m., and vehicles were diverted to detour routes.
Near Zadar, three people died on motorbikes in just a few hours
This tragedy near Murvica was the second fatal accident in Zadar County in the same day, making this weekend one of the blackest in recent times. Barely three hours earlier, around 12:40 p.m., another motorcycle driver was killed on the Adriatic highway near the Maslenica bridge.
A 52-year-old Austrian citizen lost his life in that first accident. The police investigation showed that the Austrian, driving a motorcycle with Austrian registrations towards the north, ran into the bend too fast. He lost control of the steering wheel, ran off the roadway and crashed into a stone cut on the east side of the road at speed, dying at the scene, it says. Index.hr.
