Moldova has switched to using the euro as the reference currency for determining the official exchange rate of the Moldovan lei instead of the US dollar.
The National Bank of that country stated in its decision of November 15 that the transition from the US dollar reflects Moldova’s economic shift towards the European Union market and that it will reduce fluctuations in the exchange rate, reports Tanjug.
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, welcomed the decision of the National Bank (BNM).
“This change will benefit our foreign trade, facilitate financial planning for exporters and investors, but also ensure greater predictability in international commercial transactions,” said Sandu.
She also pointed out that this decision of the National Bank of Moldova will enable Moldovan companies to export to the European market more easily.
