Eight people died and seven were injured in a fire in a nursing home in Veliki Bork in the Belgrade municipality of Barajevo. It is suspected that the fire was arson, relevant minister Nemanja Starović told RTS, adding that the home had all the necessary permits.
-Three injured people admitted to the Emergency Center in serious condition-
Three patients injured in a fire in a nursing home in Barajevo were admitted to the UKCS Emergency Center.
The patients are in serious condition and all methods of intensive medical treatment are being carried out, according to the Emergency Center.
-MUP: Fire extinguished in Home for the elderly-
Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Department for Emergency Situations, extinguished a fire that broke out during the night in a nursing home in Barajevo, Belgrade, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia announced.
“There were 30 people in the home at the time of the fire, eight of whom died, seven were injured, three of whom were treated at the Emergency Center, and four at the VMA. The rest of the beneficiaries were accommodated in another Home for the elderly,” the announcement states.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs states that the fire broke out at 3:32 a.m., and the firefighters-rescuers, arriving at the scene at 3:45 a.m., found the fire in a raging stage on an area of 150 square meters, out of the total area of the building of 500 square meters.

The on-duty public prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade is conducting an on-site investigation where eight users of the nursing home in Barajevo died in a fire the previous night, said Nenad Stefanović, the chief public prosecutor of the VJT in Belgrade.
He added that there are reasons to suspect that the fire was started by one of the users of that home, who himself was injured.
“An autopsy has been ordered on the victims of the fire and all the circumstances of this case are being determined, after which the VJT in Belgrade will decide on further steps,” said Stefanović.
