Croatian media published a video in which the Vice President of the Croatian Government, Josip Dabro, fires shots from a pistol through an open window while driving in his car.
Dabro, who is also the Minister of Agriculture, confirmed to “Jutarnji list” the authenticity of the video, but claims that he shot maneuver bullets from his sports pistol HS-2000, for which he has a valid license.
“It’s a video from a couple of years ago, and I shot it from a pistol with maneuver bullets. It was a private celebration, possibly even the birth of my brother’s son, and I sent the video exclusively to our friend Marija Radić and no one else,” said Dabro.
He said that Radić was with them all evening, and that what is heard on the recording is not any threats.
“He hung out with us all evening. I was driving in my private car, the driver was my friend, as was the other person who was filming. That was my friend too. Everything happened near Privlaka and outside the inhabited place,” said Dabro.
The minister points out that he has been engaged in sports shooting since 2007 and has a license for weapons.
“It is about the sports pistol HS that I regularly use as a member of SSD “Sokol Privlaka”. Under the gun law, I had a permit to keep and carry, and then the law was changed so I had a permit to carry, but you can’t be a sport shooter without being able to carry a gun. I know that something has been changed, but check it in the law,” Dabro told Croatian media.
He pointed out that Prime Minister Andrej Plenković was only interested in whether it was before his entry into the Government or after.
“That’s the only thing he was interested in. That was at a time when I was not a minister and a member of the Government. Of course, from today’s perspective it seems crazy and of course I regret doing it. It was a moment of happiness, excitement, and, if you really want, recklessness, even though I didn’t endanger anyone or commit a criminal act,” he said.
Dabro says that he sees no reason to resign because of the published video.
