The decline in the value of the bitcoin cryptocurrency in the first quarter of the year reduced the value of users’ wallets.
Thus, the number of bitcoin addresses with assets worth at least $1 million fell by more than 18,000 in the first quarter, according to Finbold research.
Between January 1 and March 31, 2026, the number of bitcoin addresses with a value of at least $1 million fell from 131,716 to 113,233, a decrease of 18,483 addresses. In the same period, the price of bitcoin fell from $88,341 to $65,982, a decrease of 25.31 percent. Meanwhile, the number of addresses with a value of at least $10 million fell by 2,107.
“This is a clear example of how quickly assets can move on the chain during periods of volatility,” said Jordan Major, editor-in-chief of Finbold. “While more than 18,000 million titles are gone, the move is largely driven by price rather than large-scale sales. The underlying demand, especially from the bigger players, remains intact.”
“Bitcoin’s market structure continues to evolve, but this also means that mid-cap holders are more exposed to price changes,” added Diana Paluteder, editor of Finbold, SEEbiz reports.
“We see a clear trend where volatility is weighing on smaller and mid-market asset classes, while larger holders are in a better position to ride out the cycle.”
