BiH’s foreign exchange reserves exceeded 18.2 billion KM, currency stability preserved

The net foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) on April 30 of this year amounted to 18,264,665,000 KM, while at the same time net foreign assets reached the level of 1,622,430,000 KM, which, according to the Report on compliance with the arrangement of the CBBH currency board, fully ensured the stability of the domestic currency.

The data show that the official foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank are mostly invested in debt instruments and deposits with foreign banks, while liabilities to non-residents in the largest volume represent the IMF accounts that the Central Bank holds as a depository for BiH’s membership in the International Monetary Fund.

The Central Bank states that during April of this year, the arrangement of the currency board was fully respected, in accordance with the Law on the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Net foreign exchange reserves are defined as the difference between the value of assets and liabilities, and their stability is key to preserving the country’s monetary security, reports Fena.

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as an independent institution, is the only one responsible for the implementation of monetary policy in the country, and maintaining the stability of KM remains its basic mandate.
