As many as 18.4 billion KM amounted to the value of card transactions in BiH last year

At the end of 2024, the total number of active bank cards in BiH was 2,585,419 and was higher by 131,069 compared to 2023, and the card issued 21 banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The market is dominated by debit cards, with a share of 83.37 percent and a pronounced growth trend.

Total number of card transactions in 2024. It was 186.045.013 and a growth trend is observed.

The average value of one transaction was 99 KM and is smaller for three KM compared to 2023, while the average annual turnover was 7,127 KM and is 524 KM compared to 2023.

The growth of card transactions on ATM, POS and the Internet was recorded. Of the total value of card transactions, 68 percent were realized on ATM devices, through the POS device 28 percent, while four percent was implemented via the Internet.

The percentage of realized traffic on the Internet in the country was 36 percent, and abroad 64 percent of the total traffic cards on the Internet.

Realized value abroad to cards issued by BH. Banks increased in 2024. by 34.34 percent compared to the previous year, and amounts to 1,007,781,923 KM.

In the structure of transactions, cash withdrawals on ATM and POS devices are 31 percent, while the share related to the purchase of goods and services on POS devices is 69 percent.

Compared to 2023. The realized value of foreign cards in BH increased. Banks and shops by 11.41 percent and amounts to 3,740,983,232 km. In the structure of transactions, cash withdrawals on ATM and POS devices are 54 percent, while the share of the purchase of goods and services on POS devices 46 percent.

Banks are constantly working on the introduction to the offer of a larger number of ATM and / or POS devices. In the past year, a total of 1,767 ATM devices and 35,035 POS devices were installed. Of the total number of installed POS devices, 34,687 were installed in stores and 348 on bank counters.
