The annual inflation rate in the eurozone in January 2026 was 1.7 percent, which is a drop compared to two percent in December, while the year before it was 2.5 percent, Eurostat announced.
At the level of the European Union, the annual inflation in January was two, compared to 2.3 percent in December, while in January 2025 it was 2.8 percent, reports Fena.
The lowest annual inflation rates were recorded in France (0.4 percent), Denmark (0.6 percent), and in Finland and Italy (1.0 percent each).
The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (8.5 percent), Slovakia (4.3 percent) and Estonia (3.8 percent).
Compared to December 2025, annual inflation decreased in 23 member states, remained stable in one, while increased in three countries.
According to Eurostat data, services made the biggest contribution to annual inflation in the eurozone in January, with growth of 1.45 percentage points, followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (+0.51 pp), non-energy industrial products (+0.09 pp), while energy had a negative contribution of 0.39 percentage points.
