The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo sentenced Anel Bećirović (35) to 20 years in prison for the murder of his unmarried wife Emira Maslan (31).
Bećirović’s sentence will also include the time spent in custody. Namely, he was serving his prison sentence from November 13, 2023.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Canton of Sarajevo (KS) previously requested the maximum sentences for all the criminal offenses for which he was accused, namely murder, domestic violence and illegal possession of weapons.
As stated at the sentencing, Bećirović received 19 years in prison for the criminal offense of murder, five years in prison for the criminal offense of domestic violence, and three years in prison for the criminal offense of carrying and possessing a weapon. In the end, that sentence was combined into 20 years in prison.
According to the indictment, the crime took place on the night between November 12 and 13, 2023, when Anel shot Emir to death in front of their then four-year-old son with a shot to the head in an apartment in Bosanska Street in Alipašina Polje.
At that time, Emira was hiding from Anel in that apartment, since she had previously reported him to the police for domestic violence.
After killing his unmarried wife Emir, he fled to his apartment in Hrasno, where he barricaded himself together with his son.
After several hours of negotiations, Bećirović surrendered, and the child was handed over to social services.
By the way, the murder of Maslan was found out after the employer noticed that something strange was happening since she did not come to work and did not answer the phone.
He was previously convicted of domestic violence against the murdered Maslan.
