Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton arrested Adnan Šerak from Sarajevo in Mostar, for whom the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton had previously issued an operational search. The information about the arrest was confirmed by the Ministry of Interior of the HNK, stating that the action was carried out in the area of the North Mostar Police Station.
Šerak, born in 1987, was previously known to the police and judicial institutions throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina due to a number of criminal offenses in his file. After the deprivation of liberty, criminal processing will be carried out on him, and then other measures provided for by law.
According to information from the police, Mostar investigators located the vehicle in which Šerak was on Thursday evening. Officers of the Criminal Police Sector of the MUP of the HNK participated in the action, with the support of the Mostar-Centar and North Mostar police stations, as well as the Support Unit.
When the vehicle was stopped, Šerak managed to escape and move away in an unknown direction, while two people who were with him – IS (1986) and AR (1999) from Sarajevo – were detained and detained.
For years, Adnan Šerak has been considered one of the persons known to the security services in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His criminal record includes convictions and prosecutions for serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
Back in 2009, he was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for the attempted murder of Dragan Jeftić and Irfan Osmić. According to the investigation, he shot them at the end of 2008 in the Sarajevo cafe “Škorpion” on Grbavica.
The records also contain the case of the murder of Dženan Džaka from Sarajevo, for which he was also convicted, after beating the victim to death, according to the verdict.
Šerak came to the public’s attention in 2018 when he escaped from the Zenica Penitentiary. After more than a month of hiding, he was found and arrested in a Sarajevo cafe in Kranjčevićeva Street, following a tip from citizens. At the time, the media reported that he tried to conceal his identity during the arrest, but the police recognized him by the tattoo on his arm.
After returning to prison, he suffered minor injuries, and his lawyer claimed that he was beaten inside the Zenica Penitentiary. During that period, he asked to be transferred to Sarajevo Penitentiary, but that request was not approved.
His last sentence was handed down in 2023 before the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, where he was extrajudicially sentenced to one year in prison for unlawfully depriving a person of the initials AG and inflicting minor bodily injuries. He was released from prison in October last year.
