The international police organization Interpol has issued a warrant for the leader of the extreme Jewish sect Lev Tahor, Jonathan Emmanuel Cardon Castillo.
Jonathan Emmanuel Cardona Castillo, 23, is wanted by Guatemala on charges that include human trafficking, rape and child abuse, according to Interpol.
Castillo is a citizen of Guatemala, where Lev Tahor is based, and speaks Hebrew and Spanish, it said.
As AP reports, the issuance of the warrant was confirmed by the Guatemalan prosecutor’s office and the police, stating that Cardona was accused of human trafficking in the form of forced pregnancy, rape and abuse of minors.
A part of the members of this sect lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a time.
In February 2022, the Service for Affairs with Foreigners of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that a group of 37 foreign citizens had left the country for causing unrest among citizens.
“These are citizens of the United States of America, Canada and Guatemala who in the past period have caused public unrest, based on claims that they are members of the radical Lev Tahor sect. The aforementioned persons left Bosnia and Herzegovina before the expiry of their visa-free stay, under their own initiative, in compliance with the legal provisions prescribed by the Law on Foreigners”, the Service for Affairs with Foreigners of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced at the time.
Foreign citizens entered Bosnia and Herzegovina during November 2021 on the basis of the right to a visa-free stay. The Service for Foreign Affairs carried out checks on foreign nationals through available official records, including INTERPOL records. Contact was made with the competent police administration, and the Service was informed that there were no recorded violations of public order and peace or the commission of criminal acts by the foreign nationals in question.
Competent security agencies also carried out additional checks for the mentioned persons, and it was not established that they represented a threat to public order and security of BiH.
As foreign nationals did not violate the provisions of the Law on Foreigners, there was no basis for proceeding and imposing a measure of expulsion or placing them under surveillance, it was pointed out at the time.
