A school bus collided with a train in Belgium and, according to the Minister of the Interior, several people were killed.
The accident occurred at a level crossing in Buggenhout, and the cause of the collision is being investigated, reports Euronews.
– It was with great sadness that I received the news about the tragic accident in Buggenhout, where a school bus was hit by a train. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. I wish the injured a lot of strength – wrote Minister Bernard Quintin on the X platform.
Belgian Mobility Minister Jean-Luc Crucke told Belgian television RTL that four people died in the accident – two children, the driver and another adult.
“It’s tragic. My thoughts are with the victims, but also with those who were injured and their families,” he said, adding that two people were seriously injured.
According to a report by a local public broadcaster GARDENthere were seven school children and two adults in the vehicle.
Of the two adults, one was the driver and the other a staff member from the school.
The accident happened at a level crossing, and the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
